Course Description:

The Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991 requires alcohol and drug testing of safety-sensitive employees in the aviation, motor carrier, railroad, and mass transit industries.  Alcohol breath testing is required as of July 1, 1995, for covered employees.

This course follows the training curriculum as prescribed by the Department of Transportation (DOT), the procedural requirements of alcohol testing as stated in the (49CFR part 40 [Federal register Vol. 59, NO. 31, 2/15/1994, pkg. 7340-7366]) and amendments to the rules. 

Course Outline:

  • Review the rules of procedure for 49 CFR Part 40
  • Evidential breath alcohol testing
  • Handling refusals, incomplete or invalid tests
  • Record keeping and issuance of certificates for each student
  • Unit quizzes and final exam
